A classic lace-inflected cardigan with slightly boxy modern proportions, knit in luciousĀ Alpaca Heather for a true year-round sweater to layer over a summer evening sundress or under a winter wool blazer.

Finished Chest Circumference: 33¼ (36¼, 39¼, 42½, 45¼) (48¼, 51¼, 54¼, 57¼, 60¼)ā€, with Ā¾ā€ front bands overlapped

Length: 19½ (20, 20¾, 21, 21¾) (22, 22¼, 22¾, 23¼, 23¾)ā€

Manos del Uruguay ALPACA HEATHER (70% wool, 30% alpaca; dyed colors approx. 164 yds/50 g):

6 (7, 7, 8, 8) (9, 9, 10, 10, 11) sks for longer sleeve option

US 5/3.75 mm 16ā€ and 29ā€ circular needles and double-pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

US 4/3.5 mm 29ā€ circular needle and double-pointed needles

Seven Ā¾ā€ buttons

Sewing needle and matching thread for attaching buttons

Gauge

21½ sts and 31½ rows/rnds = 4ā€/10 cm in St st usingĀ larger needles.

16 sts of each chart measure 2Ā¾ā€ wide using larger needles.

Notes

The back and fronts are worked separately in rows, then joined at the shoulders and side seams.

The stitches for each sleeve are picked up around the armhole opening and worked back and forth in short rows to shape the sleeve cap. At the end of the cap the sleeve stitches are joined for working in the round down to the cuff.

During neck shaping, if there are not enough stitches in the lace panel to work a decrease with its companion yarnover, work the stitch of the incomplete pair in stockinette.

Two sleeve length options are provided: the ¾ length shown, and a bracelet-length sleeve (slightly shorter than full-length) which is not shown.
