The resting color is carried up to the next row. Always wrap the yarns in the same way to keep an even braid along the wrong side. Always slip stitches with yarn to the wrong side; i.e., with yarn in back on RS rows, and with yarn in front on WS rows. You may find it helpful (as I did) to use stitch markers to keep track of repeats.
